Garden Lumber

Most people can get excited about the idea of gardening either for the intrinsic good feeling it gives them to help create something that is alive and growing or from the practical stance of growing good food and knowing where it comes from. I am a little bit of both. Even if I don’t save a penny on the food I grow in the garden, the enjoyment that I get every day, whether measuring the growth of the Hops vines or sharing snap peas with my dog Rusti before I leave for work early in the morning, or just sitting in the afternoon sun, taking in a system of beds and strategically placed plants that not only works, but is working as I watch.

Image

Even now, on the darkest day of the year, the garden still pays it’s dividend. I feel good about it, good enough to take the time to write, to maybe inspire others to experience the same. Now is the time to start preparing, not on the first 60 degree day. A little work and weather resistance will pay off well when the ground starts to warm.

Weather resistance

At Mill Outlet, we are always trying to keep materials on hand to meet the needs of home gardeners. We certainly will always have something that can be used for vines to climb on or a fence for wind protection, or raised beds for better control of your soil condition and temperature. At times we will also have special items, high quality or low price, or a combination of the two.

Right now is one of those times. We have a large amount of 2×12 western Red Cedar, more on the way, along with 2×8 and 2×10. All of this is very nice for the price, perfect for raised bed building. 2×12 is $1.75/ft, 2×10 is $1.45 and 2×8 is $1.15.

Image

More on the way

We also have a limited amount of cedar 4×4 for only $1.00 per foot and 1×3-6 high quality tight knot cedar for only $ .90 each.

I could go on and on about all the things we can supply home gardeners, but it is probably better for you to come in, nose around a bit and ask some questions. I am positive you will find what you need.,,,,,,,,,,,Doug

Perfect for me, Perfect for You?

This morning I was responding to an E mail inquiry for some clear utility cedar we have. The customer wanted specified lengths and in the end said, oh yeah and the boards need to be  perfect.

Image

Perfect ?

This was a reminder to me of why I enjoy selling lumber products so much. I reminded him that if these boards were quote, unquote perfect they would be more like $6-$7 per board foot instead of $2.50. What I considered but did not mention was that even the $6 per foot boards would not be perfect for some or even most people when all facts are considered. The boards might be straight, tight and vertical grained, perfectly dried and of consistent color, perfectly surfaced and edged, but who can afford $6.00 per board foot. That is $100.00 for 2-10 foot 1×10 boards, not perfect for me at least.

Image

Perfect ?

So perfect for me is making sure that what you get is perfect for you, your project, at this point and time. We work hard to carry the right combination of product, price and value to fit the majority of your needs and expectations. We make ourselves readily available to tell you about those items so that you can see clearly how they will work into your idea of perfection. We will never strong arm a customer into taking something they don’t want or need, We are only here to listen, inform, answer questions and Deliver!

Clear vertical grain cedar or fir, excellent fence board and supplies, Pressure Treated lumber, affordable shop grade plywood, cedar split rail, Utility cedar lumber, low grade, high value bargains we are constantly searching for. Quick, drive through service and knowledgeable, polite answers to all of your questions.

So, what I am saying is,,, what is perfect for us is finding the wood products that are perfect for you.

White Fir

White Fir Decking arriving soon to Mill Outlet Lumber. These attractive boards are

3/4″ x 4 5/8″x 12′ long and are a B clear grade, meaning that they have some knots, but are primarily Clear. What!, 1×5 decking, nobody uses that. This is true, but apparently they do in Korea where this material was originally destined to go. The deal fell through and we swooped in to pick up the bargain for you.

Image

Not just for Decks anymore

Do not limit yourself to think of this lumber only as decking. It is perfect for door jambs and window liners, we will probably have some made into flooring and paneling. It was kiln dried to 14% moisture content and has a heavily relieved back to ensure dimensional stability.

The price, only $4.00 per 12′ board or $ .33 1/3 per foot

The Lowly Post Cap

At Mill Outlet Lumber we manufacture simple, practical Fence Post Caps. It only makes sense because we do sell fencing, we do sell an array of cedar products and we try really hard to be practical.

As I drive around I see a lot of post caps and it makes me wonder if people realize that they serve a purpose. Most of them I see are decorative and I am certain, overpriced, made of copper, or with solar panels and built in lights. That is all neat, but in this day and age is it really necessary?

Image

Our Cedar post caps are inexpensive and they serve a purpose. They shed water off the tops of fence posts while protecting from the sun reducing opportunities to degrade the end grain causing the posts to check, crack, let in more of the elements and ultimately fail. All this and since we take extra care to select each cap as it is cut, they don’t look too bad either.

Because you are buying from the manufacturer and because we know how to keep our costs down low, we can ship these caps nationwide in quantities of 1 or 1000, or more, while saving you money.

For Inexpensive Cedar post Caps, Fencing and more, look to Mill Outlet Lumber for all Cedar needs.

Plywood Central

Mill Outlet is the place to find bargains on Shop grade Plywood Siding and sheathing such as CDX plywood. Most of what we carry is Shop grade meaning that it has some defect but is otherwise very usable for many things such as shelving, sheds and outbuildings, containers and even non structural residential uses such as roof re sheathing in the case where you are covering existing structural sheathing.

Shop grade also means that it is less expensive of course. Currently we carry a wide variety of T-1-11 siding in this grade, with and without grooves and in 3/8″, some 1/2″ and lots of 5/8″ thicknesses. T-1-11 is also available in 4×8, 4×9 and 4×10 foot sheets.

If you are in the need for inexpensive, shop grade siding, look no further than Mill Outlet Lumber where you can count on us to always be on the lookout for bargains for you!

Super Tacoma Fire Logs

Fire Log Powers ACTIVATE!

Image

Never underestimate the power of the Lowly Tacoma Fire Log. Not only do they possess 8000 Btu’s per pound worth of heating energy, but add a little rainwater and they break concrete blocks like Bruce Lee. Seriously, Mike left these two Tacoma Fire Logs inside this Concrete block on Saturday and this is what we found this morning, our portable lumberyard heater, destroyed. This shows the great deal of compression that goes into making the logs as well as the low amount of heat wasting moisture they do not contain. These started out as neat little 3″ x 3″ nuggets and now they are over 4 times that size.

Tacoma Fire Logs at Mill Outlet Lumber, $5.50 per box of 8,  1/2 the price of Home Depot or Costco, comparable products or even less $275.00 per ton, 696 bricks or nearly 1/2 price again.

It may not occur to one at first but in addition to supplying high quality Cedar lumber and Fence supplies, Pressure Treated lumber and Shop Grade plywood. Mill Outlet Lumber is the go to source for clean burning, long lasting Tacoma Fire Logs. We stock and sell these by the box of 8 and by the one ton pallet.

Boxes of 8 sell for $5.50 and come with a fire starter plug, and 1 ton pallets sell for $275.00 and do not come with a fire starter, sorry.

Tacoma Fire Logs are not made with wax binders but are compressed under extreme pressure that binds them together. They are of course made in Tacoma and support the local economy. They will burn for 1-2 hours in an open fire pit or up to 6 hours in a well controlled woodstove. Each log is approximately 3 pounds and contains 24,000 btu’s of energy

Help us support the local economy and make use of lumber mill byproduct while saving money, purchasing Tacoma Fire Logs at Mill Outlet Lumber
